Academic biography

Dr. Harun Gençosmanoğlu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation, at Karabük University Faculty of Health Sciences.

He received his Bachelor of Science (Hons.) degree in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation from Hacettepe University in 2017. He subsequently earned his Master of Science degree from Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Institute of Health Sciences in 2020, where his thesis investigated craniocervical biomechanics, muscle performance, and disability levels in individuals with temporomandibular disorders (TMD). He completed his PhD at Hacettepe University Graduate School of Health Sciences in 2025, with a doctoral thesis focused on the efficacy of manual therapy based on the Fascial Distortion Model (FDM) in TMD patients. Alongside his health sciences education, he holds a second BSc degree in Computer Engineering from Ahmet Yesevi University (2021).

Dr. Gençosmanoğlu began his academic career as a Lecturer at Avrasya University Faculty of Health Sciences, where he worked from 2020 to 2023. During this time, he undertook various administrative duties, including Deputy Head of the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation, Faculty Board Member, and Chair of the Academic Staff Recruitment Evaluation Committee. In 2023, he joined Karabük University as a Lecturer, and in 2025, he was promoted to Assistant Professor within the same institution.

His administrative contributions at Karabük University are extensive; he holds memberships on the Board of Directors of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Training and Research Center, the Quality Commission, the Accessible University Commission, and the Student Counseling Services Commission. He has also served on the Academic Planning and Assignment Commission and acted as an Assistant Rescue Team Leader for earthquakes and natural disasters.

Dr. Gençosmanoğlu is actively involved in scientific research, having led and supervised numerous national projects. His recent projects include investigations into postural control and fall risk in stroke patients, muscle strength and kinesiophobia in individuals with ankle injuries, cardiopulmonary capacity in COVID-19 vaccinated individuals, and the effects of myofascial release therapy on neck pain in women practicing traditional Turkish-Islamic arts.

His teaching portfolio at both undergraduate and graduate levels is broad, encompassing Biostatistics, Industrial Physiotherapy, Manual Treatment Techniques, Palpation Skills, Balneotherapy, Orthotics and Rehabilitation, Rheumatology, Geriatric Rehabilitation, Electrotherapy, and Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation.

An active member of the scientific community, he belongs to several professional organizations, including the Turkish Physiotherapy Association (TFD), the Association of Pediatric and Adult Rheumatology Physiotherapists, the Association for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Education Programs (FTR-AD), the Association for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Education Programs of Health Sciences (SABAK), the European Fascial Distortion Model Association (EFDMA), and the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Vocational Education (MEDEK).

His scholarly output includes peer-reviewed articles published in distinguished international journals such as CRANIO® and the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine, alongside numerous full-text papers presented at international congresses. He has also authored several book chapters on topics including cybersecurity in wearable rehabilitation technologies, Maitland manual therapy approaches, machine learning applications in respiratory rehabilitation, and manual therapy in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. Additionally, he serves as a peer reviewer for a wide range of reputable journals, including the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies, Journal of Hand Therapy, NeuroRehabilitation, and Rheumatology International.

Committed to continuous professional development, Dr. Gençosmanoğlu holds advanced certifications in FDM Therapy, CRAFTA Therapy, the Functional Individual Therapy of Scoliosis (FITS), Trigger Point Dry Needling, Pilates, and Wellness instruction. He has also completed specialized training in AI and Data Analysis, FIFA Football Medicine, power analysis and sample size calculation, systematic review methodology, and accreditation evaluator training (SABAK/ETRAD/MEDEK).

To broaden his international perspective, he has undertaken academic and clinical visits to various institutions across Jordan, Belgium, Poland, the United Kingdom, Austria, Germany, Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Hungary, fostering collaborations and staying current with global rehabilitation practices.
